Being able to visit Dickinson Family Farms in Southern California this year is going to bring unexpected benefits to our Tree-Ripe customers this summer!

Being able to visit Dickinson Family Farms in Southern California this year is going to bring unexpected benefits to our Tree-Ripe customers this summer!

We have been working behind the scenes on partnering with a California grower for some time; not only to expand products available to our customers, but also to expand our harvest window time frames on tree-ripened fruit. We met the perfect partners in Dickinson Family Farms and are launching a trial run of their certified organic Gold Nugget mandarins and mixed organic fruit boxes as soon as next week!

After working on this project for many months, I was able to visit Andrew Dickinson last month and see this amazing place in person. Andrew is a part of a multi-generational farm that understands the in’s-and-out’s of cultivating this lush part of the country. The San Diego County area is known for its biodiverse farming, and I really got the feel of it seeing a lemon tree next to a pomegranate tree next to an orange tree next to an avocado tree next to… you get the idea.

When we think of a fruit orchard or grove, we typically picture row after row of the same type of trees, which is great for large production and quality control. With biodiverse organic farming practices, we see the land supporting what and how much can be grown. It’s amazing to see the end results.

The climate and terrain make for the perfect growing conditions for citrus, avocado, and other specialty tropical fruits. Climbing to an elevation of over 1,200 feet only about 25 miles from the Pacific coast line, it feels like you’re farming on top of a mountain. But the micro-climate of mild weather with perfect moisture levels is an oasis for growers.

We can’t wait to bring these new organic fruits to you from Dickinson Family Farms!
